Letters of Reccomendation

DEADLINES

Letters of Recommendation, Transcripts, and other applications items, must be requested at least 2 weeks prior to the deadline.

*Do not include vacation days in the two week period.  See chart on the Senior page for specific due dates.

Steps to Request a Letter of Recommendation

Step 1: Create a resume (required).

Step 2: Upload your resume to Xello under "Portfolio" OR use the Resume Builder under "About Me".

Step 3: (optional, 12th grade only) Complete the Student Information Sheet and have a parent/guardian complete the Parent Brag Sheet under "Assignments" in Xello.

Step 4: Ask your recommender in person and by email to confirm they can write your letter.

Note: If requesting a letter from your counselor, you must also complete the required Letter of Recommendation Request Form.

Step 5: Once your recommender agrees, formally request the letter in Xello.
Note: For Common App schools, teacher letters are listed as “Teacher Evaluations” in Xello.

Requesting Documents for Common App Colleges on Xello

Counselor Rec for Common App Schools

You only need to assign your counselor once in Xello. After that, they’ll send your recommendation and required forms to all Common App schools on your list.

  1. From your Xello Dashboard, go to Plans > College Planning.

  2. Click View My Applications, then click on any college with the Common App logo.

  3. Under Counselor Forms, click Assign Counselor.

  4. Choose your counselor from the list and click Select, then Next.

  5. A confirmation banner will appear once your request is submitted.

Teacher Evaluation for Common App Schools

Unlike the counselor form, you must submit a separate teacher request for each Common App college.

  1. From your Xello Dashboard, go to Plans > College Planning.

  2. Click View My Applications, then click on any college with the Common App logo.

  3. Under Teacher Evaluations, click Request.

  4. Choose your teacher from the list and click Select, then Send.

  5. A confirmation banner will appear once your request is submitted.

Note:

  • If your SRHS teacher doesn’t appear, let them and your counselor know so they can be added to Xello.

  • If you're requesting a letter from someone outside of SRHS, use the Common App website to send your request.
